Barbering – Level 2 VRQ
Great way to learn those gents barbering and grooming techniques
You will cover the range of essential practical skills and knowledge which will help you get a job in the barbering industry:
- Working in the hair/barbering industry
- Follow health and safety in thew salon/barbers
- Client consultation for services
- Shampoo condition hair and scalp and scalp massage
- Promote products and services to clients
- Cut men’s hair and Cut facial hair
- Colour and lighten hair and Styling men’s hair
- Create an image based on a theme in the hair sector
- Salon reception duties
- A keen interest in hairdressing and want to work with people.
- You must meet deadlines and be committed to your course.
- GCSE maths and English grade 4+/C grade is preferred. If you do not hold a grade 4 or C in English and/or maths you will be required to study Functional Skills as part of the course.
- You will attend a work experience placement; you will take part in enrichment activities including competitions and additional courses.
You will need a kit and uniform which we will explain at interview.
- Practical assessment on clients and online tests
- You will complete some assignments and may need to sit online exams for Functional Skills.
You must have professional values and behaviours and have excellent attendance.
You may develop your skills more with an Apprenticeship or you could study hairdressing or beauty therapy. Another option is to work on cruise liners or further qualifications could lead to teaching/assessing and onto a degree or self employment.
Level 2 Diploma for Barbering Professionals (Level 2 Apprenticeship)
Ideal course for anyone with an interest in men’s hairdressing
Off the job training to develop skills and knowledge in the following:
- Consultation with clients
- How shampoos and conditioning products affect the hair and scalp.
- Advanced Cutting using barbering techniques using a range of equipment incl. scissors, clippers, razors, trimmers and clipper attachments taking into account hair characteristics and head and face shape. Techniques include club cutting, scissor over comb, clipper over comb, freehand and texturising.
- Creative looks square layer, uniform layer, graduation, with fringe, with parting, around and over the ear, with fade and flat top. Necklines include tapered, square and skin fade. Finishing techniques include styling, brush drying, blow drying and product application.
- Professionalism and communication meeting and greeting clients, being helpful and courteous, client care, making appointments, taking payments, selling and recommendations.
- Cut facial hair tapered beard line, full beard outlines, moustache, brow trim, partial beard and moustache and full; beard, styling products include wax and oil.
- Shaving full shave, partial shave using creams, oils, gels and soap.
- Our Apprentices are professional and have a passion for the industry; a commitment to quality, a positive attitude and show a willingness to learn.
- To be an Apprentice you will be employed in a salon/barbers/spa
- If you do not hold a grade 4+/C in English and/or maths you will be required to study Functional Skills as this is part of the course.
- You will attend off the job training sessions, enrichment activities including competitions and additional courses.
You will need to have excellent attendance. This qualification includes an end point assessment (EPA) in practical skills. EPA is set at a very high standard and graded Pass or Distinction, good preparation for EPA is vital.
Continue your studies to Level 3, upskill in hairdressing or develop skills in beauty therapy. Once you have sufficient experience you may want to work towards being an Assessor, be self-employed, apply for a manager role or progress onto a degree course.
