Hairdressing – Level 2 VRQ

You will cover the range of essential practical skills and knowledge which will help you get a job in a salon as a Junior Stylist:

  • Working in the hair industry
  • Health and safety in the salon
  • Client Consultation
  • Shampoo and condition hair and scalp
  • Colour and lighten hair
  • The art of dressing hair
  • A keen interest in hairdressing and want to work with people.
  • You must meet deadlines and be committed to your course.
  • GCSE maths and English grade 4+/C grade is preferred. If you do not hold a grade 4 or C in English and/or maths you will be required to study Functional Skills as part of the course.
  • You will attend a work experience placement; you will take part in enrichment activities including competitions and additional courses.

You will need a kit and uniform which we will explain at interview.

  • Practical assessment on clients and online tests
  • You will complete some assignments and may need to sit online exams for Functional Skills.

You must have professional values and behaviours and have excellent attendance.

You may progress to a Level 2 Hairdressing VRQ Diploma.

Level 2 Diploma for Hairdressing Professionals (Level 2 Apprenticeship)

  • Following Health & safety in the salon
  • Client Consultation
  • Shampoo and condition hair and scalp
  • Promote products
  • Cut women’s hair
  • Colour and lighten hair
  • Perm and neutralise hair
  • The art of dressing hair
  • Create an image
  • Plaiting and twisting
  • A keen interest in hairdressing and want to work with people.
  • You must meet deadlines and be committed to your course.
  • GCSE maths and English grade 4+/C grade is preferred. If you do not hold a grade 4 or C in English and/or maths you will be required to study Functional Skills as part of the course.
  • You will attend a work experience placement; you will take part in enrichment activities including competitions and additional courses.

Level 3 Diploma for Advanced and Creative Hair Professionals (7004)

Step up your salon skills and knowledge with this Level 3 Apprenticeship.

  • Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
  • Creatively colour and lighten hair
  • Develop, enhance and evaluate your creative hairdressing skills

This course covers all of the core behaviours, knowledge and skills needed to become an advanced and creative hairdresser, such as:

  • Consultation for a range of technical services
  • Advanced and creative restyles
  • Advanced and Creative styling and dressing of the hair
  • Creative colour conversion services (colour correction and lightening)
  • Smoothing and strengthening systems
  • Use fashion forward trends in hair to create a collection of hairstyle look books
  • A keen interest in hairdressing and want to work with people.
  • You must meet deadlines and be committed to your course.
